Standard LED and Bi-LED Performance on Honda Vario 125 at Different Distances

Motorcycle headlamp modification using Bi-LED is intended to improve road illumination, but its effects at different distances and on electrical load require quantitative evaluation. This study compares the point illuminance and electrical characteristics of a standard LED and a Bi-LED installed on a 2025 Honda Vario 125. A comparative experimental method was employed under static conditions with the engine idling and the high beam activated. Illuminance was measured at distances of 1, 3, and 5 m using a lux meter, with three repetitions for each combination. The Bi-LED produced 6,432.33, 2,954.00, and 769.67 lux, whereas the standard LED produced 2,127.67, 608.33, and 370.00 lux, corresponding to increases of 202.3%, 385.6%, and 108.0%, respectively. However, the Bi-LED had a nominal power of 120 W, compared with 40 W for the standard LED, with estimated currents of 8.76 and 2.84 A. The results demonstrate that the Bi- LED improves point illuminance at all test distances but imposes a higher electrical load. Therefore, proper beam alignment and verification of the vehicle’s electrical-system capacity are required before long-term use.
