UI/UX Optimization of an E-Library Based on User-Centered Design through Usability Testing and Iterative Design Improvement

Abstract

The study evaluated the usability of a mobile E-Library prototype developed for Universitas Yatsi Madani. The design process was based on user research and continued through persona, empathy map, user journey, user flow, wireframe, design system, prototype, usability testing, and design improvement. Usability testing involved three student respondents who completed task scenarios covering the home page, book search, book details, borrowing, confirmation, and the book shelf. Observation, task testing, and a five-point evaluation questionnaire were used to collect data. The results showed that all respondents completed the tested scenarios, resulting in a task success rate of 100%. The questionnaire produced mean scores of 4.6, 4.4, and 4.8, with an overall mean of 4.60 on a five-point scale and an interpretation of Very Good. The observation indicated that the navigation, search feature, book detail information, borrowing confirmation, and book shelf were generally easy to understand. Several improvements were nevertheless identified, including increasing button visibility and size, improving color contrast and button placement, adding ratings and reviews, and refining spacing and visual consistency. The evaluation indicated that the prototype had good usability and could serve as a basis for further implementation and evaluation with a larger and more diverse user group.
