Prinsip injeksi bahan bakar yang baik bertujuan untuk dapat memenuhi berbagai hal yang diharapkan dari kendaraan bermesin diesel, sistem injeksi bahan bakar minyak (BBM) (termasuk pompa injeksi dan nozzle) memainkan peranan yang penting karena secara langsung mempengaruhi performa mesin dan kendaraan. (Denso, 2005), Pada motor diesel umumnya saat injeksi yang normal adalah antara 20º Crank Angle sampai dengan 16º Crank Angle Before Top Dead Centre. Jika saat injeksi dimundurkan (mendekati TDC), temperatur dan tekanan udara yang masuk menjadi lebih tinggi sehingga ignition delay lebih pendek. Penelitian ini telah dilakukan eksperimen berupa penggantian alat spi pada cam injector mesin diesel. Spi yang diganti yaitu dari spi cam injektor standar original pabrikan menjadi spi buatan (modifikasi) untuk merubah posisi sudut derajat letak cam injektor yang akan menekan pompa bahan bakar (fuel pump) dan disalurkan ke ruang bakar melalui injektor yang merupakan waktu penyalaan (ignition timing) bahan bakar pada ruang bakar motor diesel.
