EVALUATION OF U-TURN FACILITIES ON JALAN YOS SUDARSO, SUNGAI PENUH CITY, JAMBI PROVINCE

Jalan Yos Sudarso in Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province, has 12 U-Turn facilities within a 1.4 km corridor with spacing between facilities of less than 300 meters and a lane width of only 2.75 meters, which is inadequate for four-wheeled vehicle maneuvers, along with unsignalized intersections located within median opening areas. These conditions result in significant queuing and traffic delay. This study aims to analyze the current road network performance, formulate treatment alternatives, and recommend the most ideal solution. Road segment and intersection performance were analyzed using PKJI 2023, road network performance was assessed based on Austroads 2020, while the proposed network performance was evaluated using PTV Vissim microsimulation. Two treatment alternatives were formulated based on a traffic engineering management approach, encompassing U-Turn location rearrangement, geometric improvement of median openings, sidewalk elevation reduction, changes to intersection control type, and installation of road furniture. Under current conditions, the network s2.2peed is 20.62 km/h with an average delay of 53.28 second/vehicle. Alternative 1 (reducing the number of U-Turn points to 3) decreases delay by 45.18% and travel time by 10.60%. alternative 2 is recommended as the most ideal solution, as it achieves the highest network efficiency while maintaining area accessibility.
