Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has fundamentally reshaped educational practices worldwide, demanding new pedagogical approaches across disciplines, including Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI). Although scholarly interest in artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced learning continues to grow, empirical evidence on the integration of deep learning technologies within faith-based education at the primary school level remains scarce. This study examines the extent to which deep learning-based AI technologies can serve as an effective pedagogical bridge between Islamic values and the demands of contemporary learning. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 55 primary school (Sekolah Dasar) teachers in Bandung, Indonesia, through a structured questionnaire covering four dimensions: teachers' perceptions and acceptance of AI, the effectiveness of deep learning in PAI instruction, teachers' technological readiness, and the impact of AI integration on student learning outcomes. The population comprised primary school PAI teachers in Bandung, with 55 teachers purposively selected as the sample, and data were analyzed descriptively using percentage distribution. The results show predominantly favorable attitudes: 56.4% of respondents agreed that deep learning architectures effectively replicate human cognitive processes, 70.9% affirmed that AI enhances the contextual relevance of PAI content, 76.3% agreed that AI improves overall learning efficiency, and 72.7% expressed concern that AI adoption risks weakening the teacher's role in students' moral formation. These findings underscore both the transformative potential of AI integration in PAI and the ethical and infrastructural boundaries that must guide its implementation.
