Journal History

The Muhammadiyah Journal of Legal Studies (MJLS)was first published in February 2024 as a biannual, peer-reviewed academic journal under the Faculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Tangerang, Indonesia. The journal was established to respond to the growing demand for academic spaces that critically engage with contemporary legal developments through the lens of Islamic legal thought, particularly the progressive values championed by Muhammadiyah.

Since its inaugural issue, MJLS has been dedicated to fostering scholarly discussions that connect classical Islamic jurisprudence with modern legal challenges, especially in the context of legal reform, social justice, and good governance. The journal publishes two issues each year, in February and August, and accepts high-quality manuscripts written in English or Bahasa Indonesia.

Positioning itself at the intersection of religion, law, and transformative social thought, MJLS aspires to become a leading reference for legal scholars, practitioners, and researchers both in Indonesia and internationally. Through collaboration, academic rigor, and a commitment to Muhammadiyah’s reformist spirit, the journal continues to contribute to the advancement of legal knowledge rooted in ethical and inclusive perspectives.
