Author Guidelines

Thank you for considering the Muhammadiyah Journal of Legal Studies (MJLS) as a platform for your scholarly work. To ensure a smooth review and publication process, authors are kindly requested to adhere to the following guidelines when preparing their manuscripts.

Manuscript Length

Submissions should be original, unpublished research articles with a minimum length of 6,000 words, including references, tables, figures, and footnotes. Manuscripts shorter than the required length may be returned for revision or rejected without peer review.

Language and Style

Manuscripts must be written in clear, formal academic English. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread prior to submission to ensure clarity and correctness. MJLS also accepts manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia, provided they meet academic standards of writing and argumentation.

Formatting and Structure

Manuscripts should be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx) formatted with 1.5 line spacing and 12-point Times New Roman font. Use standard A4 page size with 2.5 cm margins on all sides. The manuscript should include the following components in order:

  • Title page with the manuscript title, author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), and contact email

  • Abstract of 150–250 words summarizing the key points and findings

  • Keywords (3–5 terms)

  • Main text divided into logical sections with appropriate headings

  • Conclusion

  • Acknowledgments (if any)

  • References

  • Appendices (if applicable)

Citation Style

All citations and bibliographies must strictly follow the Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition (Full Note) format. This style uses footnotes or endnotes for citation of sources, accompanied by a bibliography at the end of the manuscript. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all citations. Examples of Chicago style citations can be found on the official Chicago Manual of Style website or authoritative style guides.

Originality and Plagiarism

Submissions must be the author’s original work and not under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism, and a similarity index exceeding 20% is grounds for immediate rejection or revision request. Proper attribution of all sources and avoidance of duplicate publication are mandatory.

Submission Process

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the journal’s submission system or by email as per instructions on the journal website. Authors must include a cover letter stating the manuscript’s originality and compliance with MJLS guidelines.

Peer Review

All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors should ensure that their manuscripts do not contain identifying information in the text to maintain anonymity during review.

Ethical Considerations

Authors are expected to comply with ethical standards related to research and publication, including accurate representation of data, acknowledgment of funding sources, and disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest.

For further inquiries or clarification on manuscript preparation, authors are encouraged to contact the editorial office at amiludin@umt.ac.id
