Abstract

Literary works are the products of their creators' imagination, used to convey their ideas and thoughts. Generally, literary works are designed to be enjoyed by the public and must offer more than just entertainment. One form of literary work is the novel, which often contains the author's expressions and imagination. Literary psychology is a method of analyzing literary works using psychological concepts. This research focuses on the inner conflicts and emotions in the novel "Raumanen" by Marianne Katoppo, driven by the researcher's interest in how the characters in this novel experience internal conflicts in their lives. Inner conflicts and emotions are key elements that often form the core of a literary work, providing depth and complexity to the characters and the storyline. This research is a literary study using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was conducted using library research techniques. Data presentation and processing were carried out through an interpretation process with a literary psychology approach. The results of the study show that Raumanen's inner conflicts include emotional empathy, fear, worry, anxiety, sadness, despair, inferiority, and frustration. These inner conflicts influence the course of the story and the main character, marked by various dominant negative emotions. The novel "Raumanen" by Marianne Katoppo deeply explores this theme, presenting a strong and evocative emotional depiction, and offering a reading experience that stimulates both thought and feeling.
