PUBLICATION ETHICS
1. Introduction
Publication ethics are essential to the sustainability and credibility of the JIST journal. These principles are intended to uphold high standards of academic integrity and professionalism. This document outlines guidelines to be followed by all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers. This statement is based on COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
2. Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
JIST adopts a set of publication ethics to ensure academic integrity in every article published. Consistent application of ethical standards is vital to prevent issues such as plagiarism, data manipulation, and conflicts of interest.
3. Publication Decisions
Editors are responsible for deciding which articles should be published in JIST. These decisions are based on the significance, originality, and clarity of the manuscript. Editors follow the journal's policies and legal requirements, including those concerning copyright and plagiarism.
4. Fair Play
Each manuscript is evaluated based on its intellectual content without discrimination regarding the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy. Editors and reviewers are required to provide impartial evaluations.
5. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must ensure the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts. Information regarding a manuscript should only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or other editorial advisers as appropriate.
6. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors and reviewers must not use unpublished materials disclosed in a manuscript for their personal advantage. Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with authors, companies, or institutions connected to the work.
7. Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and, through communication with authors, may also aid in improving the quality of the manuscript. Reviewers are expected to conduct an objective review, provide supporting arguments, and identify relevant published work not cited by the authors. Any manuscript received for review must be treated as confidential and not used for personal advantage.
8. Duties of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work is original and free from plagiarism. All sources and references must be properly acknowledged. Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. If authors identify significant errors in their work, they are obliged to promptly inform the editor and cooperate to retract or correct the manuscript.
