Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Effective from August 2026
PRIMA: Jurnal Pendidikan Matematika recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI technologies can support academic writing and research activities. The journal supports the responsible and ethical use of AI while maintaining the principles of scientific integrity, transparency, accountability, and confidentiality throughout the publication process.
The use of AI-assisted technologies does not replace the responsibilities of authors, editors, or reviewers. Human contributors remain fully accountable for the content, accuracy, originality, interpretation, and integrity of all scholarly work submitted to PRIMA.
1. General Principles
PRIMA applies the following principles regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence in scholarly publishing:
- Transparency: Authors must disclose any substantive use of AI in the preparation of a manuscript.
- Human Accountability: Authors are fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal, including any content produced or assisted by AI tools.
- Research Integrity: AI must not be used to fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research data, analyses, or conclusions.
- Confidentiality: Editors and reviewers must protect the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and must not upload manuscript content into publicly accessible AI platforms.
2. Use of AI by Authors
Permitted Uses:
Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for purposes such as:
- improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing style;
- translating text while preserving the original scientific meaning;
- organizing ideas or preparing manuscript outlines;
- assisting with programming, coding, or data-processing scripts;
- supporting literature organization, provided that all references are independently verified by the authors.
All AI-generated outputs must be carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors before submission.
Prohibited Uses:
Authors must not use AI to:
- fabricate or generate fictitious research data;
- create false statistical analyses or research findings;
- invent references, citations, DOI numbers, or bibliographic information;
- generate conclusions that are not supported by the research results;
- manipulate images, figures, tables, or other research evidence in a misleading manner;
- submit AI-generated content without human verification and critical review.
Any misuse of AI that compromises the integrity of research will be treated as publication misconduct.
3. AI Cannot Be Listed as an Author
Artificial Intelligence tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs), cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to PRIMA. AI systems cannot assume responsibility for the content of a manuscript, approve the final version, or fulfill the ethical responsibilities required for authorship. Only human contributors who meet the journal's authorship criteria may be listed as authors.
4. AI Disclosure Requirement
Authors who use AI-assisted technologies beyond basic spelling or grammar correction must include an AI Disclosure Statement in their manuscript before the References section.
Example Statement (AI Used):
"Declaration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use: During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool and version] for [language editing, translation, brainstorming, coding assistance, etc.]. All AI-generated content was reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the content of this manuscript."
Example Statement (No AI Used):
"Declaration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use: The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript."
Failure to disclose substantive AI use may result in editorial action.
5. AI as Part of the Research Methodology
When AI is used as part of the research methodology, authors must describe its use clearly in the Methods section. The manuscript should specify:
- the name and version of the AI tool or model;
- the purpose of using AI in the research;
- the data or inputs provided to the AI system;
- the procedures used to validate AI-generated outputs;
- the limitations and potential biases associated with the AI tool.
6. AI-Generated Figures, Images, and Multimedia
AI-generated images, illustrations, or multimedia materials may be included only for explanatory or illustrative purposes. Authors must disclose when visual materials have been generated or substantially modified using AI and identify the tool used. AI-generated visuals must not replace authentic research evidence, participant data, classroom observations, or experimental results.
7. Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted technologies only for limited editorial support (such as checking language quality, formatting inconsistencies, or routine administration). Editors must not use AI to make editorial decisions, evaluate scientific merit, or replace independent editorial judgment. Editors are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not upload them into public AI systems.
8. Use of AI by Peer Reviewers
Peer reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts throughout the review process. Reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, figures, datasets, or supplementary materials into publicly available AI tools. AI-assisted tools may be used only to improve the language and readability of reviewers' own comments, provided confidential content is not disclosed.
9. Editorial Verification
PRIMA may use plagiarism detection software and editorial screening tools to support manuscript evaluation. If undisclosed AI use is suspected, clarification may be requested. AI detection tools will assist editorial assessment but will not serve as the sole basis for editorial decisions.
10. Violations of the AI Policy
Violations of this policy may result in editorial actions such as requesting revision, rejection before/after peer review, retraction of published work, or notification of the author's institution in severe misconduct cases.
