Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
NYIMAK: Journal of Communication is committed to enforcing the most stringent publication ethics. All parties involved in the publishing process of the journal (authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher) are expected to agree to the highest standards of ethical behavior. Our guidelines are fully adapted from the Core Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Publisher’s Responsibilities
The Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang, as the publisher, is committed to the highest ethical and transparent publishing principles, guaranteeing full integrity and professionalism in all editorial processes. The publisher endorses the Code of Conduct established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and enforces a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism, fraudulent publication, and scientific misconduct. To verify the originality of all work, all submissions are screened using a plagiarism detection system (Turnitin) before being sent out for peer review. All cases of alleged unethical behavior are taken seriously, and investigations will be initiated in consultation with the authors, editors, and/or peer reviewers. In cases of proven misconduct, the publisher, in collaboration with the editors, will take all appropriate measures to amend the situation, including publishing corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.
Editors’ Responsibilities
The editors of NYIMAK are independent experts responsible for ensuring the quality of the material published in the journal and maintaining the integrity of its academic record. Editors rely solely on the scientific quality and merit of the article as the criteria for publication, acting independently of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. Editors strictly agree not to disclose any information regarding submitted manuscripts to any third party or to use any part of the unpublished content for their own research or personal gain.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for submitting original work that has neither been previously published in English nor is under consideration elsewhere. Authors must confirm that their work is the result of proper and ethical research conduct, that all data in the articles is real and authentic, and that the use of any other authors’ work and/or words is duly cited or quoted. Authors must guarantee that all individuals who have made significant contributions to the work are listed as co-authors. In alignment with our international mandate to foster collaborative communication research, authors are highly encouraged to submit multi-authored/co-authored papers; single-authored manuscripts must demonstrate exceptional, comprehensive scholarly and methodological rigor to be considered. Authors are also required to declare any potential acknowledgments and conflicts of interest.
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Reviewers are responsible for evaluating manuscripts, assisting the editors in making editorial decisions, and improving the quality of the articles published. Reviewers must conduct their assessment in a timely and objective manner, avoiding personal or unsupported criticisms. Reviewers agree not to disclose any information regarding the manuscript to any other party or to use any part of the content for their own benefit. Reviewers must inform the editor before contacting a third party if they wish to share the reviewing task. To guarantee a rigorous and unbiased review process, reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest with respect to the research, the authors, and/or the research funders.
Retraction Policy
NYIMAK values the integrity of scholarly research and is committed to ensuring that academic rigor is always achieved. The journal will thoroughly investigate concerns raised by authors, readers, institutions, or academic editors. In line with COPE standards, articles may be retracted if:
- There is clear evidence of plagiarism.
- Major scientific errors occur, rendering the findings unreliable, whether through misconduct (e.g., data fabrication or falsification) or honest error (e.g., serious methodological errors).
- Unethical research was conducted, or data was published without proper consent.
- A third party’s intellectual property or copyright is infringed.
- Redundant publication (submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals without disclosure) takes place.
- Inappropriate or fraudulent authorship occurs.
Upon confirming publication misconduct, NYIMAK will adopt the following procedures:
- A retraction notice will appear on the article’s webpage, stating the reason(s) for the retraction. The title will read "[Retracted]: Title".
- The original article PDF will remain available but will be watermarked with a clear "RETRACTED" stamp on every page.
- All parties involved, including the reviewers and indexing databases, will be formally notified.
- Please note that Article Processing Charges (APCs), if applicable, are non-refundable if an article is retracted due to misconduct.
