Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

Tadarus Tarbawy: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Pendidikan • Postgraduate Program, Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang

Tadarus Tarbawy: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Pendidikan upholds the integrity of scholarly publishing. Authorship confers academic credit and also carries responsibility and accountability for the published work.

1 Requirements for Authorship

An individual may be listed as an author only if they meet all four of the following criteria:

  • Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  • Drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content.
  • Gave final approval of the version to be published.
  • Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work, including ensuring that its accuracy and integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Everyone who meets all four criteria must be listed as an author.

2 Contributions Not Qualifying for Authorship

The following do not, on their own, justify authorship. Such contributors should be named in the Acknowledgments section, with their consent:

  • Routine technical, administrative, or laboratory assistance.
  • Provision of funding, facilities, or research materials.
  • Holding a position (e.g., head of department, dean, or laboratory head) without a genuine intellectual contribution.

3. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Tadarus Tarbawy strictly does not tolerate unethical authorship arrangements, including:

  • Ghost authorship: Omitting individuals who qualify as authors from the byline.
  • Gift or guest authorship: Listing individuals who made no genuine contribution to the research.
  • Authorship commercialization: The buying, selling, or trading of authorship positions.

4. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author must provide an active telephone/WhatsApp number and institutional email address. Responsibilities include:

  • Communicating with the journal during submission, peer review, and post-publication stages.
  • Ensuring all authors meet authorship criteria, have approved the final manuscript, and agreed on author order.
  • Submitting the manuscript through the journal's OJS platform in line with Author Guidelines.

5. Author Contribution Statement

Every manuscript must include an explicit Author Contribution Statement based on the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) taxonomy, referenced using author initials.

Example:
"ZS: Conceptualization, Methodology; PS: Writing—Original draft preparation; SQ: Writing—Review & Editing."

6. Changes to the Author List or Author Order

Any formal requests to add, remove, or rearrange author names after manuscript submission must:

  • Be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to the Editor-in-Chief, stating a clear rationale.
  • Be approved in writing by all authors, including any author whose name is being removed.
  • Be accompanied by an updated author contribution statement.

Tadarus Tarbawy reserves the right to suspend or delay publication until all required documentation and author approvals are completed and verified in full.

7. Authorship Disputes

Determining who qualifies as an author is the collective responsibility of the authors, not the journal. If an unresolved dispute arises, the editorial board may consult the authors' affiliated institution(s) for formal clarification and will proceed strictly in accordance with COPE guidelines.

8. Use of AI Tools

Generative AI tools cannot be designated as authors because they cannot assume legal or ethical accountability for scholarly work. Any use of AI tools in data analysis or draft preparation must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript, and human authors remain fully responsible for the integrity of the content.
